I found the cutest cake blog today! It's called Bakerella.com.

And as I type, I'm waiting on my cakes to finish baking which recipe I got from her website. I'm making a few pans of yellow cake and the goal is to keep them moist. I'm practicing for February because I have 2 CLIENTS wanting specialty cakes!!! Not one but TWO!! Holy cow!

So needless to say I have to practice making the cakes taste fabulous because the decorating comes a bit easier for me..

-One cake is going to be my Desperate Housewives themed cake for a birthday and the second is going to be a new creation. I have some ideas but nothing concrete yet. I'm start sketching tomorrow.

Well well well hellllo all!

I am very excited to share with you my current obsession. Last week (for the first time EVER I might add) I made a “fondant” cake for my families mini-reunion at my aunt’s house. We have these 2-3 times a year where my mom’s grandmothers children and grandchildren come together to have dinner and just socialize with each other. When she was alive, she was the glue which kept all of us together. When she passed away 4 years ago, no one made the effort to see each other. At the 1 year mark of her passing when we all got together and realized it, we decided to make a more conscious effort to see each other.

So last Saturday, we had another mini-reunion… I wanted to do something special for everyone and have been watching wayyy to much CAKE BOSS on TV… So I wanted to try making a fondant cake with butterflies because my grandmother loved butterflies.

I started at night because I wanted to surprise my mother Saturday morning. I must have worked on that cake for 5 hours or so…. And it was the fastest most fun 5 hours of my life… Take a look and tell me what you think..

The other day I picked out a really cute outfit and wanted to match it with a pair of heals. But I felt self conscious and insecure. Granted I am 6 feet so whenever I wear heals, I'm a good 6'3-6'5. Now that's big! So every now and then I feel... insecure... Insecure that I don't have a boyfriend therefore I'm going to scare off all the potentials out there.

However I found this article that made me look at my height another way.. This girl is sassy and I love it!!
"I couldn't care less that I tower over most of the men I meet. If a man's masculinity is threatened because I'm 6'3" and sexy in my shoes, then he's clearly an idiot. 2 days ago I bought a one month of unlimited fitness classes at Flores Fitness.

Now I've never done anything quite like it... This gym has: Sport Yoga, TRX Group Sessions, TRX Boot Camp, and Boxing. It's a suspension training workout that is designed to use your body weight as a training tool to build muscle, increase flexibility and tighten your core.

So I am very nervous and excited to start this but I NEED IT! I'm going to start on the 2nd of January (as my New Years Resolution) as well as eating more protein and less carbs... I'm going to be ripped before my trip if it kills me :)

It is with great pleasure I announce my first trip back to my birth country since our move to America in 1992. I am going to Almaty, Kazakhstan on May 8th, 2012 for an ENTIRE MONTH!!!

I am overwhelmed with happiness, joy, and excitement. I finally get to visit the place I spent the first 3 years of my life. I am fortunate enough to have my parents travel with me for the first 2 weeks of the trip and they will show me the hospital I was born in as well as the building we lived in. My parents also met in Kazakhstan so I will get to see the "famous fountain" that my mom was sitting near when my dad drenched her with water.

Again, I'm so excited and I have so much to prepare for for this trip. I need to brush up on my Russian speaking and reading, as well as get a little bit more "fitter".. I need to prepare for bikini season ahead of time :)

4 months and 30 days to go!!

Healing Time...

So recently I've been dealing with a "physical condition"... I've found out that I have anemia due to an iron-deficiency. The crazy thing about this whole process is is that I don't know how long I've had it for. I have a feeling it's been off and on for about two years now.

The reason I even checked for it now was because my friend's mom did a biofeedback therapy session on me to read my energy, stress levels, and even my emotional state. She found that my bodies number one concern was my respiratory system which was strange due to the fact that I'm a college athlete (competing year round in tennis). This discovery helped us understand why I might be breaking out only on my cheeks as well. Old Chinese medicine teaches that breakouts on the cheek area is linked to a respiratory problem...

So now we have these puzzle pieces and we need to put them together... Honestly, in the last two years I would have never said I felt like I had a respiratory problem... Asthma?? NO! I would have felt it; I would have known something was wrong.. However, looking back now, I do remember that the last two years I've felt myself getting fatigue during workouts. I would be the first one tired and asking for a water break but in all honestly, I was such a good "athlete/tennis player" that I thought it was due to my style of play. I play aggressive and I hit the ball hard therefore exerting more energy than the average person. That was my outlook..

So just recently I got blood work done and my doctor found a low count of red blood cells. This was due to the iron-deficiency which wasn't getting enough oxygen to my vital organs aka my lungs!!!!
Now the puzzle is making sense and I finally have an understanding of what is going on with my energy level and my breakouts.

I've started seeing an acupuncturist twice a week (going on my eighth session). Granted 2 of those were strictly for a hurt ankle, but I'm already seeing results. While it's not 50% better; I'm getting a lot closer to that percentage. Needless to say its been quite the process and heartache; I've been learning to deal and learning to lean on God throughout this whole process... I'm definitely not done but I'm getting there..

This is the layout without being glued on yet. I like the cluttered appearance of the "BREAKFAST" because it gets the audiences attention with how significant the topic was during our adventure. Also putting a tab behind the "B" lets the audience know where to start.

A Little Trip To France

Recently I've watched two of the most amazing French films; Coco Before Chanel & Hors de Prix ("Priceless"). Both of these films had Audrey Tautou as the main actress and one thing that overwhelmed me more than actually feeling like I was submerged in the culture, was the way the stylists were able to fashion her. She looked exquisite in everything and it gave me an idea or two for my own personal wardrobe. A way to bring back some old fashion with class to our ever so crazy modern taste... I would definitely recommend watching these two foreign films. A+ for Audrey.

The other day I found a beautiful purple color from Sally Hansen (480 Iris) in a clearance box at Albertson. It's the first time I used the INSTRA-DRI and it really was quick to dry. The topcoat I applied after took forever to dry but overall it was a great buy!

Last night my younger cousin and I decided to make Red Velvet Cupcakes out of scratch while watching the first Harry Potter movie... As nerdy as that may sound, we had a good time. The reason we decided on the Harry Potter series is because we've never really watched them before and since it's a pop phenomenon in our culture, we should brush up on our knowledge in order to understand all the Harry Potter references. Needless to say I'd give the movie a B+ and my cupcakes an A-

It is absolutely wonderful and its shown me that there is more to this world than material things. I, too, want to make a difference in this world.

I've been thinking of all the things I can do and tennis in the community is one place I can start. I believe that sports is such a good way to keep kids out of trouble, develop life skills, and possibly get some sort of financial support for college.

I'm just so inspired right now!!

Yesterday was my last first collegiate tennis match at Willamette U..

Happy to report that we won that match which gives us a little confidence going into the season. I'm really excited for the upcoming weeks of traveling and playing however it's not going to be all fun and games. I do have a senior thesis to right which I've decided to look at how the media frames women's value and worth before and after the 1973 'Battle of the Sexes' Tennis match with Billie Jean King. This will 'hopefully' show how powerful the media is in persuading us or just framing concepts and standards in which we resort to.

Anyway, I'm going on my 4th week of classes; 11 more to go!!!

I'll keep you guys posted on how my college team does and how my paper is turning out :)

A Christmas Story

Currently I am reading in the book of Luke (verse 2) and ironically came to the story of the birth of Jesus and the shepherds just 2 days before Christmas..

I definitely think that this story is overlooked. We just know it so well that we forget the small details that makes this story incredible; such as Mary being an unwed teenager... Plus her and Joseph didn't really have family to support them and on top of that, just think of the faith both of them had to have to abide by God's plan.

God's overall plan was way bigger than what they had planned for themselves and it takes great faith and courage to put 'yourself' aside and serve the Lord whole heartily.

"This child is destined to cause the falling and rising of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be spoken against, so that the thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your own soul too." -Luke 2:33-35

I really want to help in some way; this nonprofit has job openings but it's all the way in NY and I imagine that the pay is pennies.. Even though that shouldn't matter and I'd be helping families get water, I have to take into account that I need to financially support myself in an expensive city..

I'm done with FINALS and PAPERS!!! I'm so very proud of myself and now I have one more semester to go with my undergrad.. Very surreal feeling.

Anyway, as of tomorrow, I'm going to start my insanity workouts while also trying to incorporate bodyrock.tv workouts.. I'm very nervous but I want to be in phenomenal shape for the tennis season by January..

Ethics Final

I cannot wait until winter break but it wont be as relaxing as I want it to be.. I have to study for my composition exams for rhetoric (I need to pass to graduate)... No big deal for anything..

So I will be studying during the break for the majority of the time..

But being back in my hometown will be very nice

I hope all of you had a wonderful thanksgiving!!

I definitely did; the whole family got together at my aunts house like we do every year.. It's not tradition unless it's at my aunts...

Then after dinner, we watched the Beyonce special on ABC about her 'I am... Sasha' world tour... It was amazing and it opened my eyes to somethings... She is so thankful for every opportunity that she has been given. Which is a wonderful trait to have but at the same time, she had to work for it... Her parents didn't hand frame and fortune down to her, she created it...

That, to me, is so inspiring and it's making me think more about my future career path.. I'm graduating soon and I'm one to want to know everything that I'm doing and have it planned out.. As of right now, I don't but I have an idea... I think that during winter break I need to get my butt in gear and plan it out better... Make some phone calls, make connections and plan things out.

I'm in the midst of trying to get an internship this summer with the PNW USTA!! (tennis association)... So hopefully, that will open some doors for me :)

Midterms!!

Ahhh!! I've been so stressed out over midterms! Not only that, I'm sick too.. So that makes life more miserable. But I finished my first midterm this morning and my next one will be tomorrow.. I have time to study tonight so that will make life alittle easier.

Also tomorrow (friday) I have a meeting with the marketing coordinator from the PNW USTA!!! I'm so thrilled!!

I've been stressing about what I'm going to do after I graduate and what I'm really passionate about and I've finally figured it out!! I want to coordinate/market/promote TENNIS!! I've been playing it for 12 years now and I always knew that I loved it but I didn't want to teach it for the rest of my life.. But I could have a career in the tennis industry and not teach and I've never really thought about it like that!!! It's amazing to have those 'aaahhhaa' moments..

I've just returned from Mobile, Alabama and sadly to report that I didn't do as well as I would have liked... I lost my first round 6-3 6-4

As much as it burns, I need to learn from it and move on.. So that is the process I'm going through right now; letting go..

In the mean while I'm going to take a break and focus on school until January when the season starts up again ;)

USTA/ITA Division III Champion!!

You read right!!!

Sorry it's taken me so long to blog about my amazing weekend but missing two whole days of school really does set you back alittle ways..

But I am proud to say that I am the Regional D3 Champ and I will be going to Mobile, Alabama to compete in the Fall National tournament in 2 weeks!!

This weekend was simply incredible and I really don't have words to describe all my matches... All I can say is that it was the hardest tennis weekend of my life (not exaggerating) and I'm really proud of the fight that was in me...

I had an amazing support system from my teammates and coaches/friends and parents. So I'd like to thank them for helping me achieve my goal.

Hopefully I will be able to put up a video of me playing a tie-breaker in one of the matches so that will be kinda cool...

And of course I will keep you guys posted about my trip to the south and my insanity workouts as well!!

Small thought of the day...

The more days that pass the more I contemplate about future careers... I really enjoyed my summer PR internship for a start-up modeling agency called The Public Eye. So maybe some how intertwine the two. Possibly fashion PR or an agency that specifically is designed to empower young woman..

..I feel like I'm really close to an "AAHHHA" moment but not quite there yet...

It was about a girl that started her own PR agency called RICHPR right after graduating. The only prior experiences she has had was an internship the previous summer. From that she learned the in's and out's of PR and decided to start her own agency.

Hello Essential Followers,

In recent news from my hometown, a disturbing story emerged when a woman was attacked outside of a Starbucks (which I frequently visit btw) by getting acid thrown in her face.

The woman was hospitalized and the police do not have any leads and/or suspects.

Sadly enough, this is not the first story similar to this that has touched and changed my heart. A similar story from the UK gained national attention when Katie Piper, former model, had sulphuric acid thrown in her face.

-I encourage all you gals (and guys) to watch this documentary. This has forever changed the way I look at people, myself, and the world... I realized that our lives are so much more than our outer appearance and through this documentary, Katie helped me in her own little way.

Positive and Negative Attractions

Just the other night I had a small family 'get-together' at my aunt's house in the backyard around the fire pit. My cousin from Guatemala just arrived so we were all chit-chatting about life, love, and our relationships.

My aunt (a woman that has been married for almost 20 years) said something that just stuck and made sense to me about how most relationships work.

It's just like a battery attraction with negative and positive energy. The best, fullest, and most meaningful love relationships have to do with people that are almost polar opposites. Chances are, morals are similar, but behavior types are different. Someone like me travels at about a million miles an hour therefore I need someone that is more naturally slower. Our personalities will complement each other which makes the puzzle pieces come together much easier (or so to say.)

So that makes me think, did I make a mistake pushing 'Mr. Nice Guy' away from before?

Back to School

Hello faithful followers,

It's that time of year where students from all different age ranges are getting ready to go back to school.

I have less than a week before I make my way down to my University and the only thing that is keeping me going is that I'm going to be a Senior which means MY LAST YEAR OF COLLEGE!

I am excited about the tennis season as well but I'm more excited about finishing to begin my new life NOT AS A STUDENT! I want to work a normal job and as much as paying bills will suck, I want to do that too! It's all about the experience of growing up and I am ready for that new chapter in my life.. College makes me feel like I'm still constantly being taken care of.

So, please stay posted because I will post pictures and keep you guys and gals updated on my experiences in Oregon..

Lessons in Love

Just finished reading The Hills: Lessons in love

and the verdict is.....

I LOVED IT!!

This book had such great advice about relationships, flirting, and even heartbreak. I would definitely recommend it for any girl that needs a little help with playing the field (and that would be myself).

It has dating perspective from all 4 girls which all have very different personalities. I've figured out that I'm more like Whitney so my dating perspective would be along the lines of hers which is very classy and classic.

So now that I'm aware of certain things I do (and don't do), I'm going to put their advice to the test. So I will keep you guys posted on my efforts on the field ;)

Fashion Show, Fashion Show, Fashion Show at lunch!!

On Friday the 13th (and yes I did go out) I attended my first ever fashion show in Portland, Oregon at Couture Ultra Lounge.

Betsey Johnson & Collier were the designers...

While it was short and sweet and to the point, I had a blast being there and thought that the clothes were amazing. Realistic to the Pacific Northwest :)

Great job designing the clothes!!!

She has a post called "Heals- the higher, the better" and those are the exact shoes I've been looking for online that I've been seeing a ton of female celebraties wearing. Christian Louboutin's Red-Souled Stilettos...

This story came back into my head after watching "To Save a Life" yesterday night.

I would definitely recommend this movie; it made me think about how life is bigger and better than what I thought of it for myself. There's more to life than an average 9-5 job with a nice car and mortgage.

Around the World in 80 Dates...

A couple of months ago I read a book called Around the World in 80 Dates. This book is based on a true story about a woman's journey to search for Mr. Right around the entire world in a series of dates arranged by friends.
Out of almost 80 complete dates, she found herself compatible with two men. Two!!

That makes me wonder if there is a Mr. Right or only one "Soul Mate". (I've been programmed to believe that)...
Regardless if there is or not, this book was a great read and only in my wildest imagination would I love to have the opportunity to travel the world and meet different people.
Hopefully once I'm done with school I will have the opportunity to travel a little and see what the world has to offer. All I know is the bubble I've been raised in and I desire to experience more.

This day has been unreal! I had an absolute blast being a photographer's assistant for a male modeling photo shoot.

The model has been a friend of mine for the longest time and he's just recently been looking into modeling. So Irene P. Photography was able to do the photo shoot in short notice and made him look like an absolute stud.

Niche Public Relations

Thanks to Jack Hardy, I was able to get an internship with a PR firm in my hometown!

I've started about a week ago and since then, it's been amazing!! I've been doing research about modeling agencies/events in the Portland metro area and it's been a blast!

If things work out, I'm hoping to possibly do this internship during my senior year as my thesis project.

Maybe this is my calling in life..? We'll see...

Nice guys finish last??

Do nice guys really finish last?.. Before Friday, I really did believe with all my heart that that particular saying was not true. I believed that any guy has the ability to sweep a girl off of her feet.. Now I'm not so sure. Last Friday I went on a date with the perfect gentleman. I have never been treated quite like that by any guy; I mean he opened doors, paid the bill to everywhere we went that night, and gave me so many complements. Not only that, the next day I went to work (12 hrs shift) and I had flowers delivered to me!!

I was so overwhelmed, in a good way of course, because not everyday do I have guys sending me flowers. However as perfect as it was, I didn't feel anything romantically. I enjoyed talking and hanging out with this individual but I couldn't see myself with him. Granted I haven't been in tons of relationship therefore making me an expert but I've had one or so; enough that it made me remember what I felt like when I came home from those dates..

So as hard as it was to decline a second date to a perfect gentleman; I have to follow my gut feeling. I have to trust that my initial reaction is correct and that my heart subconsciously knows what I'm looking for even if I might not know right off the bat.

I don't think he knows how much I really do appreciate them and how much of a princess he made me feel like :)

Homeward Bound

My experience in Seattle, Washington was nothing short of being placed outside of my element. Beginning to build a nonprofit organization is difficult but rewarding at the same time. While unfortunately my cousin and I had only begun to build the foundation, there is so much more to be done. However, college is once again around the corner and The American Outdoors Academy is being put (somewhat) on hold.

Therefore leading me home to prepare for my senior year in college :)

While I wasn't able to get a productive internships this summer at some trendy advertising agency or PR firm to see where my niche in this world might or might not be; I was introduced to a contact in both areas that are willing to assist me in my journey...

Keep your fingers crossed for me :)

Decisions

My time is Seattle is almost up with about two more weeks to go...

I would definitely have to say that I'm excited to go home soon to unwind a little. Not that this experience has been terrible; I've learned so much not only within business but with myself and developed some tougher skin...

I've decided (as of now) that I do not want to get my master's degree right off the bat.. Perhaps wait a little.. I've come to the conclusion that the field I'm looking to go into doesn't require that try of education. Not that it's not hard or doesn't need to be studied, for sure it does, it just requires employees to obtain it within the real world..

With that said, this Friday I'm having a meeting with a small advertising agency/nonprofit newspaper and hopefully get a part-time job there.. I'm still thinking about my possibilities but I'm not closing any doors before I look into them first..

Happy Friday!

Friday is finally here and while I am still working today, I get to work on a more relaxed task of playing around with some brochure/business card ideas for the American Outdoors Academy.

Also I've been assigned another task of creating ideas for merchandise for the academy so I've been sketching some ideas... I'm not going to lie, I was having a blast doing it!! Career path?? Maybe.. I still want to test the waters a bit..

However one thing that I can work on is getting my portfolio together of all the creative pieces I've designed from school projects to academy flyer's.

Well I'm off but stay posted for pictures of my various sketches and ideas.

Change of Pace

Well well well, here I promised to keep my blog updated and yet I let it slip.

However now, I'm going to stay true to my word and write at least every other day...

After school was officially out for the summer, I started my one month public speaking course during the summer at WSUV. Needless to say it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and not only that, my professor thought that I had some natural skills.

It's interesting how my biggest fear might possibly be my biggest strength.

Once I finished my course, I was off to Seattle to stay with my uncle to help his daughter start a nonprofit organization called the American Outdoors Academy. This organization is to educate and promote outdoor recreational activities through various classes, workshops, and excursions. All the profits earned will go towards underprivileged children to participate in the same activities, free of charge.

Its basically an organization that provides classes and services to members and the public for all affordable seasonal recreational activities. All profits go back into the company for rental equipment for the members and events for underprivileged children to experience those various activities as well. MacBook Pro

Just recently I was able to buy a new MacBook Pro for myself.
I am beyond thrilled and I am so excited to start creating magic from it. As of right now, I don't have any of the creative applications such as photoshop, indesign, etc. but I will very soon..
With that said, I will hopefully be able to start the process of PR work and possible grow into a business from there.

Spring Break

A well deserved spring break just came to an end. I was fortunate enough to spend half a week home with my family and the other half in California with my college tennis team.
At home, I was able to relax and recover from 10 straight weeks of schooling then once we left to California, it was time to work hard again.

Our tennis team played Occidental University, Cal Luthern, and Chapman. All very good opponents which made us pick up our games a bit more.

During our downtime, we were able to walk through downtown disney, eat at in-n-out, and unfortunately sit in traffic as well.

However it was all worth it for a good time and a great tan ;)

Advertising

So here I am, a Jr. in college, and still not exactly sure of what I want to do with my life. What I do know is, I'm getting my bachelors in Media Studies and advertising/PR/Event Planning is very appealing to me.
However in doing my research online, I feel that I'm not getting the entire story. I want to get advice from someone that is already in that field.

My goal by the end of summer is to:
-Set up an informational interview with an advertising agency and PR firm
-Establish the top 10 agencies/firms I would like to work at
-Try to find connections within those agencies/firms
-Figure out if I want to continue on with my masters and where

Judgement

The other day, a friend of mine brought up a statement that really made me think of my life and how I make certain decisions. She simply stated that 'Without our common interest (which is tennis), almost all of the girls on our team wouldn't have found friendships with each other.'
Needless to say, she was right. Thinking about how diverse our little tennis team is, I have no doubt in my mind that I would have possibly judged and never befriended any of them... Which is a sad concept because I have made some amazing connections with these girls.
This got me thinking about an even bigger picture; about how I possibly reject others because they are not what I think are 'my type' of people.
What is 'my type' of people? And how do I know that that is the 'best' type because I haven't given others chances...
So I've decided that I'm going to be more open minded towards people. I want to establish friendships from all different types and learn their perspectives on life.

Everyone deserves a chance...

Three different words for Love

Raya, Ahava, Dod.
'Raya' would be translated literally as 'friend', or 'companion'.
'Ahava' is love of the will. This is an emotion that leads to commitment.
'Dod' which is translated literally as to 'carouse' or 'fondle'.

This is how the Lord has created a relationship to function. There must be these three components to equal a greater flame. "When you separate the flames, it can never really satisfy. It's like you're living outside of how God wired you to live."
One flame burning all by itself will never be as hot as all the flames burning together. We were created for all the flames to burn as one.

Portland Summer

During the summer of 2009, I was able to attend The Script concert in Portland, Oregon with my cousin and best friend.
The band was incredible and the three of us had an absolute blast from start to finish!

4th of July:
Every year on the 4th of July, the Portland Blues Fest is held on the waterfront in downtown. A group of us spent the entire day on the lawn waiting for the fireworks while enjoying good food, music, and company!
